Energy Law and Policy
Energy and mineral law and policy form another of the pillars of the professional practice at Sullivan Cove Consultants. For decades, our practitioners have dealt with the full spectrum of energy resources, coal, nuclear, oil and gas exploration and production, refinery and downstream issues. In addition, SCC is well versed in the related areas of environmental preservation and legislative and regulatory policy. We have experience onshore and offshore, as well as with electrical generation and alternative engery sources.
Sullivan Cove’s energy team includes two former general counsel of major oil and gas exploration and production companies, the former principal advisor to the Ministry of Geology of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the lead counsel for an independent refiner-marketer with two Texas refineries and 350 East Coast stations.
Leveraging our vast experience in the more traditional areas of natural resources and electrical generation, transmission and distribution, Sullivan Cove has expanded its energy practice to the green fields of alternative energy. As legal counsel for the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) SCC played a central role in the drafting and adoption of regulations for Maryland’s offshore wind (OSW) energy production and, in a follow-on PSC contract, advised the PSC on the analysis and award of licenses for OSW projects on the Atlantic Shelf.
Our lawyers have advised regulated utilities as well as unregulated entities, and have participated in federal and state administrative matters.
